Advisory Engagements

We work with a small number of clients on retainer, typically across six to twelve month engagements. Because the work is built around each client's goals, timeline, and team, we don't publish fixed packages — every client receives a custom proposal scoped to what they actually need. Get in touch and we'll talk through the fit before anything is quoted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

What does ThinkYard actually help with?
We work with early-stage founders and small business owners on the things that tend to fall through the cracks - building out a business plan, getting a website live, developing a marketing strategy, and figuring out how to find and keep customers. Some clients need all of it from scratch, while others just need help getting unstuck on one specific thing. We adapt to where you are.
Do I have to have a fully formed idea before reaching out?
Not at all. Some of our best client work starts with someone who has a strong instinct, but hasn't figured out how to share it yet. If you have a direction, even a fuzzy one, that's enough to get started. The early conversations are about clarifying the idea, not presenting a finished one.
How is this different from hiring a marketing agency?
Most agencies prefer a long-term retainer and hand you a strategy deck to execute. Most consultants give advice but don't build anything. We do both — we help you think through the strategy and then actually help implement it, whether that's building your website, writing your go-to-market plan, or making introductions to the right people. And because we keep our client roster small, you get real attention, not a project manager you've never met.
What does working together actually look like day to day?
It depends on the engagement. For project-based work (like a website or business plan), we'll have a focused kickoff, we will do a lot of the heavy lifting, and check in regularly until it's done. For ongoing advisory work, we typically meet 2-4 times a month. We are always available between sessions for quick questions, as we are actively working on things in the background - not just waiting for our next call.
What's Hey Customer, and why is it included?
Hey Customer is our own product — a CRM built for small and growing businesses, with pipeline tracking, customer lifecycle management, and simple tools that don't require a full-time ops person to maintain. It's the system we wished existed across the 20-plus years we ran our own software company, and it's now live at heycustomer.com. Clients we work with get early access as part of the engagement, at no extra cost, with a direct line to shape how it evolves. Building is our passion, and we want to help other builders along the way.
How do I know which option is right for me?
The honest answer is, we can figure that out together on the intro call. We work on retainer, usually in six to twelve month engagements, and every proposal is scoped to what your business actually needs — there's no fixed menu to pick from. If you're not sure whether we're the right fit, just reach out and we will tell you what we actually think rather than selling you something you don't need. Upselling is definitely not our vibe.
